Job Description

Old Dominion Freight Line is recruiting for a Corporate Litigation Paralegal to join the OD Family. The role will report to the Assistant General Counsel and will support, under the direction of an attorney, commercial, labor and employment, regulatory and tort disputes, claims, administrative proceedings, and litigation. The Litigation Paralegal will interact with outside counsel, be responsible for certain matters without outside counsel, and work with employees at different levels within the organization. Specific matters may include EEOC charges, OSHA investigations, environmental investigations, third-party subpoena responses, and other regulatory investigations or claims by federal, state, or local agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct legal support for litigation and assists other attorneys and support staff as required

  • Responds to third-party subpoenas and other legal processes

  • At the direction of Old Dominion and external attorneys, assists with document and fact gathering for litigation matters

  • Prepares fact narratives for responses to the EEOC, OSHA and other federal, state or local agencies

  • In consultation with outside counsel and Old Dominion attorneys, coordinates responses to civil discovery

  • Manages the litigation hold process, including drafting litigation holds, ensuring compliance with litigation holds, and timely removal of litigation holds

  • Manages and coordinates distribution of confidential and privileged information

  • Communicates effectively and professionally with both Old Dominion employees and external stakeholders

Qualifications

Education:

  • Paralegal degree or equivalent education and work experience

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent work experience as a paralegal

  • Minimum three (3) years as an in-house or law firm paralegal

  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent certification preferred

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to build trust throughout the organization

  • Legal experience and working knowledge of the civil litigation, particularly in federal court

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Westlaw, PACER, and other legal research sites

  • Meet deadlines associated with objectives and projects

  • Ability to understand and interpret complex legal documents

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the Company’s internal confidential information, operational directives and personnel matters

  • Ability to prioritize work based on applicable deadlines

  • Detail oriented with multi-tasking ability

  • Maintain a professional business manner at all times when representing OD
